Situating simulators
by Ericka Johnson 2004
Situating simulators is the first book for Ericka Johnson and was originally her PHD dissertation. This book strays from the norm of simulation based literature in the fact that it does not concern itself with assessing the fidelity of any particular form of simulation nor does it directly discuss simulations ability to improve/influence clinical practice. The book was written whilst the author was studying at the Center for Advanced Medical Simulation at Huddinge University Hospital Sweden, The book concentrates on two types of simulator a laproscopic surgical simulator and a full body Patient simulator.
The book concentrates on the value of simulation and its integration into medical education, Johnson has studied the simulations and it's parallels with current medical education. The book provides an analysis of videotaped simulator sessions and interviews with students and instructors taking part in various simulator exercises.
I would recommend this book to anybody who wishes to gain a better understanding of the educational value of simulation in medical education.
